The Jreissati Pancreatic Centre at Epworth is delighted to celebrate the opening of the redeveloped Day Oncology Ward at Epworth Geelong.

The redevelopment, featured in the Geelong Advertiser on July 3rd, has doubled the number of chemotherapy chairs from 10 to 20 and introduced two additional treatment beds, enabling more patients to undergo treatment closer to home. This increased capacity will strengthen the Centre's ability to deliver accessible, high-quality pancreatic cancer services to people across the Geelong region.

A fundamental element of delivering local care is the support provided by the Centre's local Pancreatic Nurse Specialist, Pete. Since commencing in the role in 2023, Pete has worked closely with patients and families at Epworth Geelong, providing expert clinical guidance, coordinating care, and advocating for patients throughout their cancer journey.

For pancreatic cancer patients requiring regular appointments, receiving personalised care from a dedicated specialist nurse can make a significant difference. Having a local point of contact helps patients navigate complex treatment pathways, reduces the burden of travel, and enables them to maintain a strong support network.

Pete welcomed the opening of the transformed day oncology unit, as he understands the immense benefit it will bring to the local community.

“I am proud that the new day oncology facility at Epworth provides world class cancer care to the local Geelong community. As the pancreatic specialist nurse, I'm excited that this expansion allows us to continue to deliver advanced treatments locally, in a supportive setting so that patients feel safer and less anxious about attending hospital appointments.”

The Jreissati Pancreatic Centre is proud to celebrate this important investment in cancer care for the Geelong region. As part of our commitment to improving equitable access to specialist pancreatic cancer services, the redeveloped ward will help more patients receive high-quality care and personalised support within their local community.
