Centre Director A/Prof Andrew Metz addressing guests at the Lunch by the Yarra event
More than 500 guests gathered on 28 February 2025 for the annual Lunch by the Yarra, a major fundraising event held by Epworth Healthcare to support individuals living with pancreatic cancer. This year’s event set a new fundraising record, raising crucial funds for the Jreissati Pancreatic Centre. These generous contributions will go a long way in expanding a national early pancreatic cancer screening study and enhancing support services throughout Australia.
The afternoon brought together a diverse group of community leaders, senior clinicians, philanthropists, business professionals, and long-time supporters. Among the distinguished guest speakers were Scott Cam, the beloved host of The Block, and Mick Doohan, the legendary former Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing World Champion. However, the true highlight of the event came from a deeply moving speech by a patient who shared his personal journey with pancreatic cancer. His story, from diagnosis to the ongoing battle, left a lasting impact as he expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support he receives from the Centre.
“This year’s incredible result shows the community’s strong commitment to improving outcomes for people with pancreatic cancer,” said Centre Director A/Prof Andrew Metz. “We are grateful to all those who attended and contribute to the Centre’s ongoing work.”
One guest said, A wonderful event! This is the highlight of my year, and I hope to attend next year too. I’m proud to support the Pancreatic Centre – keep up the great work!"
Lunch by the Yarra will return in 2026 to continue to raise awareness and support for people affected by pancreatic cancer.
