The July 2026 edition of Check, Pancreatic Conditions: Assessment and Management, coordinated and led by the Jreissati Pancreatic Centre at Epworth, has been published. Check is a continuing professional development (CPD) learning activity produced by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). Written and reviewed by specialist clinicians and subject matter experts, it aims to keep general practitioners (GPs) up to date on important clinical conditions. This 2026 edition builds on the success of the 2024 pancreatic Check issue, also coordinated by the Jreissati Pancreatic Centre at Epworth, which has been completed by over 10,000 GPs.

Pancreatic conditions often present first in general practice and can be challenging to recognise in their early stages. The 2026 pancreatic Check issue focuses on practical decision-making in primary care, including recognising early signs and symptoms, managing complications, and understanding when to refer patients. It emphasises the critical role GPs play in the early detection and ongoing management of pancreatic diseases, particularly pancreatic cancer, where vague symptoms and late presentation often contribute to poor outcomes.

The activity comprises five clinical cases based on presentations commonly encountered in general practice, covering new-onset hyperglycaemia after chronic pancreatitis, incidental pancreatic cysts, acute pancreatitis, pancreatic exocrine insufficiency and type 3c diabetes, and familial pancreatic cancer risk. Through these cases, GPs can strengthen their clinical reasoning, build confidence in managing pancreatic conditions and better understand their role in improving patient outcomes.

The Jreissati Pancreatic Centre is committed to advancing clinical education in pancreatic disease. Dr Ashleigh Poh, Research Program Manager at JPCE and coordinating author for this issue, worked closely with leading experts in endocrinology, hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, gastroenterology, dietetics, and genetics. This educational resource helps equip GPs with the knowledge to recognise pancreatic conditions earlier, make informed referral decisions, and improve patient care.

This unit of Check is accredited for 10 hours of CPD activity (2 hours per case).
